Subject: Real Media in the Balkan

Hi,
after a couple of hectic days here I am.
I keep thinking of an idea that was put by Ventsi in one of his previous
messages about establishing a "Balkan Triangle" (could be called BAT - Balkan Art Triangle).

Furthermore, after a fiasco with attempting to put a RM stream to ArtsLab last Thursday I'm getting more and more familiar with an idea of setting up a dedicated Real Media server to be used by the members of  the Triangle (and their associates, too).
The fact is that all Real Media in Yugoslavia (such as FreeB92) is being
streamed via servers in Holland or elsewhere. You probably know the situation in your countries, but I doubt that it is much different. There can be many reasons for this - financial, political, whatever, but it still seems silly to me.

To cut a long story short: I think it would be great (if not necessary) to establish BASS (Balkan Art Streaming Server), specialised in streaming of artistic projects/programmes. It would definitely be a pioneering project in that field in the Balkans, and I suppose/hope that nthe fact could make our common offer quite acceptable to eventual sponsors (which will definitely be needed).

I remember my talks with Ventsi in Plovdiv during which we concluded  that Bulgaria and Serbia have some common problems with art fundraising
- managers raising money intended for some purposes and then spending it on something else. I'll repeat that I'm not familiar with the situation in Greece (hope to learn it in the autumn ;-)). OK, it can be that the situation is very much the same everywhere (it's the nature of money, isn't it) but I'm still aware that artists want something else. They usually want to make their work visible to the audience, not just to the sponsors ;-)) So it seems that we'll have to deal with these things by ourselves if we want to reveal our work.

Then again, why ask for "our own" server? Personally, I'm getting tired of having to pass the same procedure when it comes to streaming - contacting someone a few days before the happening, then being transferred to some tech guy to give me tech details, then waiting my nails until the server is available for testing, and so on, and so forth...

Got tired of typing, people! Hope you got the point. And hope to see you soon. And hope to get your feedback.....
