Claudia Schiffer
At only 26 years of age, Claudia Schiffer - she was
born in 1970- has taken the term super model to a new dimension. An
international superstar, she has graced the cover of more than 500 magazines,
including Elle, Harper's Bazaar, Vogue and Cosmopolitan. Vanity Fair, whose
editorial policy refuses any model on its cover, found it perfectly appropriate
to feature a " Princess Claudia " cover and a seven page story as well
as a prestigious second cover. Claudia has also been featured on the cover of
Time magazine and was the first model ever to appear on the cover of Rolling
Stone. She was also named one of People magazine's " 25 Most Beautiful
People " and US magazine's " 10 most Beautiful Women ".
Having recently concluded a 6-year deal with Revlon
which was an unprecedented agreement in terms of dimension, longevity and
financial impact, Claudia topped off all her prosperous business ventures and
recently signed a prestigious long-term deal with L'Orйal to become their
ambassador and international spokesperson. This new contract covers cosmetics,
make-up and hair.
The native German began her modelling career in
1987 when she was discovered in a German discotheque while still a student. It
was not long before she landed the coveted Guess ? campaign, which made her the
most sought after model in the world.
In addition to her editorial work for magazines
throughout the world, Schiffer has strutted the runways for all the top
designers and has been featured in campaigns for Chanel, Versace, Valentino and
Ralph Lauren among others... She is the first and only model to have her wax
likeness in the Grйvin Museum in Paris.
Claudia's spectacular career has also flourished
and diversified, showcasing a dazzling array of talents and ventures. In 1995,
Claudia hosted the World Music Awards with actor Luke Perry in Monte Carlo. The
success of her 1990 swimsuit calendar has been repeated every year, to her must
current one, the 1997 Collector's Edition for which her royalties went to the
Pediatric Aids Foundation. She is an honorary board member for Dishes AIDS and
the spokesperson for the National Breast Cancer Coalition. Claudia has also
published two books - a pictorial entitled " Memories " and a black
& White coffee table book photographed by designer Karl Lagerfeld.
Claudia has continued to expand her role as a
business woman and entrepreneur as part owner of the Fashion Cafй. The
first restaurant opened in New York City and due to its overwhelming success has
also opened in London, Barcelona, New Orleans, Jakarta, Manila and many more to
come.
She also created a series of exercise videos with
her personal trainer : Kathy Kaehler. " Claudia Schiffer's Perfectly Fit
", a four part series, was released in January 1996 and distributed
world-wide by CBS/Fox Video.
On the film side, Claudia appeared in her first
feature film, Abel Ferrara's " The Blackout " in which she stars along
with Mathew Modine, Bйatrice Dalle and Dennis Hopper. " The Balckout
" was shown at a special screening at this year's Cannes International Film
Festival.
With a very hectic work and travel schedule,
Claudia Schiffer makes her home in Monaco.
