A Display at Saung UdjoBamboo Afternoon Part 2The Snake Dance In villages which are located far from town, where there is no electricity, it is always lonely at night and everywhere it is very dark. However, when there is a full moon, when the yards and the gardens get bright by the moonshine, children who work hard during the day helping their parents in the rice fields, go out from their houses and play together with their friends. ![]() One of many games they play is "oray-orayan" (play like a snake). Unlike khitanan (see bamboo afternoon part 1) we use angklung with pelog scale. The Jaipong -patron dance The Jaipongan dance is a creation of Mr. Gugum Gumbira back in the year of 70's. This dance looks like as if the audience is asked to join the dance. And on some occasions the audience "involved" in the dancing. Here we are presenting a fragment which derives from many kinds of dancing patrons accompanied by an angklung music in madenda scale. Mini Angklung This angklung instrument is usually placed somewhere just as a decoration. However, we can also play with this instrument, of course. Here we are presenting a very popular children's song which is known by many countries including Indonesia. On this program, the children ask you, ladies and gentleman, to sing together. Play Angklung Together If you have the idea of playing music is difficult then in just a few minutes, ladies and gentleman, you can also be a good musicians. Do you believe it ? Please, follow this program. INTERVAL/ PAUSE 10 TO 15 MINUTES A Special Angklung Performance The angklung which was made by Bapak Daeng Sutigna is very suitable to be used as media in teaching music in schools because the angklung has 5 M, namely "Mudah"(simple), "Murah"(cheap), "Mendidik"(educative), "Menarik"(attractive), and "Masal "(mass play). An angklung team will require about 35 persons. Here, we are giving you a new technique to have a team with less persons and still get the same quality of music. Closing To complete the program, our boys and girls invite the audience to join them on the dance floor, accompanied by the music from the orchestra. Staffs of students of Saung Udjo appreciate your visit to our school and we hope you have enjoyed our performance. Our program and performances are held only when at least thirty people attend. Performances begin at 3:30 pm (West Indonesia Time) and shall end about 5:30 pm. |
