Saung Udjo was established in January 1967 by Mang Udjo and his late wife Uum Sumiati with cooperation and stimulus of master, the late Mr. Daeng Sutigna - a prominent angklung player. Assistance and support also comes from central and local government which realized that establishment of SAUNG UDJO becomes one of important aspect of tourism in Indonesia.

Below, you can find more detail about our program...

Wayang Golek Demonstration
The real performance of wayang golek (puppet show) will last more than 7 hours and sometimes it will takes one or even two nights to finish a story. However, here in SAUNG UDJO, we are going to present only a demonstration of the following:
-how a wayang dances
-how a wayang speaks
-how a wayang fights and goes to war

Wayang is a figure or picture of man's life, so the character represents good life, or even bad and greedy life. A wayang story can serve as a lesson for us to always do good deeds, to obey our Creator and be loyal to our leaders. Those who do goodness, will win and live a happy life in the future, and those who do something wicked in their lives will suffer the consequences of his wickedness.
If you would like to watch the real wayang performance, we suggest you to contact a famous Dalang (puppet master) by the name of Bapak Ade Sunarya or Bapak Asep Sunandar Sunarya at the Rumentang Siang Theater in Bandung.
