     The Science Hill High School band has a long history the stretched back to the late 1920's. Former directors include: H.A. Lee, C.V. Magurean, Warren Weddle, Jerry Cole, Mark Bays, and George Jones. During it's seventy-year history, the band has been recognized for both concert and marching band performance. Past Highlights include performances at the National School Music Competition Festival in Charlotte, NC (1939), the New York World's Fair (1964), Mexico City (1973), TMEA (1975), Festival of States (1995), Macy's Thnaksgiving Day Parade (1996), the NBC Today Show (1996), and the Tournament of Roses Parade (1999).

     The concert bands have a long tradition of success with last year's Superior rating by all three concert bands as a recent highlight. The 'Topper Band program includes five concert bands and a percussion ensemble that rehearse daily. Extra-curricular ensembles include: jazz band, pit orchestra,marching band, and percussion ensemble. Two directors and a drum instructor teach a total of 400 band members in grades 8-12.

     The SHHS band program is one part of a strong fine arts program that also includes offerings for choral music, orchestra, visual art, MIDI-lab, and drama for all students 8-12th grade. Private instruction is an important part of our program with over 50% of out students participating in weekly induvidual lessons. Sectional intructors are hired for special needs and each spring guest conductors are welcomed on campus to clinic wach concert band.
