Religion in dE S. America

It should be noted at the outset that the religion described herein is not meant solely for use in South America, but can be used in any other geographical setting which has/had a shammanic religion and practicioners thereof at some point in its history. The names used below are South American and may need to be changed if being used in a locale greatly removed therefrom.

The Aclla
In the human endeavour to comprehend the enigma of Life, a new branch of thought has sprouted from the World Tree, one that seems almost unversally practised in those places where shammanism was once the dominent religion. Only the most subtle, if any, changes have occured to most tribes, and vairant names of dieties and Spirits exist, but the general thrust of this spiritual movement is the same: that healing occur. Individual healing, tribal healing and global healing.

'The Earth Mother has been wounded and must be healed,' the modern shamman insists, 'and can only be healed by eliminating all the trouble spots.' The interpertation of that statement, however, has led to two types of shamman emerging: the Tiahuanaco, who maintain a passive stance, focused on healing the Earth Mother, and the Chimú, who are more akin to spiritual warriors, set to avenge the Earth Mother. Together, they make up the Aclla.

Both of the groups of Aclla are foremost healers, whom the radiation of deadEarth affects in strange ways, as compared to the effects that it is most often recorded having. For whatever reason, Aclla are granted by radiation abilities that legend has long attributed to them (a list follows). Not many humans are affected in this way, and those who are are held in very high esteem by the Natives.

The Aclla are colelctively known as the 'wounded healers,' for thier universal healing talents, which may come sooner to some than to others, that tend to afflict the healer with the ailment of the paitent; no small few have died preserving the life of another. The real difference between Tiahuanaco and Chimú seems to be in their position in daily life.

Within a village that houses both shammans, the Tiahuanaco are the wo/men who lead daily prayers and rituals, as well as tend to the physical ailments of the people. The Chimú are more like warrior-priests who lead their tribes in battle against the Supay and tend to the spiritual healing of their people, mending 'shattered souls' and other mental afflictions. A single Aclla may hold both functions at any given time, particularly if s/he is the only one in a village, and may change positions several times throught his/her life. The truly defining factor seems to be which manipulations seem to be more prevealent in one individual.

What follows here is a summation of Aclla beliefs and practises as well as they are currently known, as well as a list of the abilities which they seem to exhibit.
