Disclaimer
Information has been provided
on these pages in hope that it will be useful.
Each of these pages contains steps followed to complete certain modifications
on my bike.
This is not a shop manual. I am not a mechanic.

from the use of this information.
If you choose to follow the steps on these pages, you do so AT
YOUR OWN RISK.
Warning!
If you plan on installing Cobra
Passenger Floor Boards, DO NOT install
these Corbin side covers. The covers are too close for the floorboards
to fit properly.

Covers Compared - Exterior View
Corbin's molded side covers provide an integrated
look to your machine. As you can see, these covers are fat and low!!
|
 |
Covers Compared - Interior View (Mounting
Points)
First remove the seat and of course the OEM
side covers. The circular rubber grommet from the upper hole on the stock
side cover should be removed and placed in the corresponding hole on the
Corbin covers.
On the OEM side covers there is a tab on the bottom edge that slips into
a rectangular grommet on the frame. The center bolt in the bottom middle
portion of the Cobin cover will be installed at that location on the frame.
You can see this in the next pics.
|
 |
On
your OEM side covers, a tab on the bottom edge slips into rubber grommet
#10 that is in a rectangular slot on the frame. I tried leaving the rubber
grommet in the frame and then fastening the bolt (supplied) in the slot,
but it didn't fit right. I removed the rubber grommet and fastened the bolt
directly to the frame.

On the Right Side
|
Corbin Covers - Mounting Points on Frame
The cover is attached to the frame at point
A with the rubber grommet that has been transferred from the OEM cover.
It is also fastened at point B with the bolt furnished by Corbin. You
can see the Corbin bolt installed on the frame at point B.
Note: I left the center nut and spacer a little
loose in order to adjust after snapping the upper attachment in place.
|
 |
|
Note: As shown in the pic, make sure that
you have a flat washer (supplied) on the back side of the slot on the
frame. Slip on the spacer and nut on the side facing you and then tighten
securly.
In the pic, bolt B is fastened to the frame.
Acorn nut A is used to fasten the side cover to bolt B.
|
 |
Use a
washer (chrome) between the spacer and cover, the other chrome washer fits
over the bolt after you slip on the cover and use the chrome acorn nut to
secure in position with a 7/16" socket. Pay attention that the upper
portion of the covers slip up under the fuel tank. You may have to adjust
the bolt you inserted slighty to make everything fit properly. One other
thing you may have to do is file the groove on the upper portion of the
cover to fit up and under the fuel tank (I had too). Once you get the covers
fitted tighten the acorn nut securly, CAUTION...remember the covers are
fiberglass!!!!

Mounting the Corbin Covers
On the Left Side
|
| Remove
# 12 (10 mm deep socket) on the left side in order to loosen the rad expansion
tank. It is then possible, without removing the tank, to get a wrench in
behind it. It is close quarters but possible to do. |
 |
|
Note: If you remove the expansion tank be
careful. People have broken the nipple off where the rad siphon/overflow
hose # 37 is connected. I have avoided removing it because I have been
told that the tank isa little bugger to get back on. Make sure that the
reservoir is properly seated ( it must not be all the way in).
|
 |
| In the
same fashion as on the right side of the bike, the left side cover will
be fastened to the bike with a circular grommet on the top right hand side
bolt and then a Corbin mounting bolt in the bottom rectangular slot. |
 |
| Some
people leave the rectangular grommet in the frame. I have chosen to remove
the rectangular grommet before installing the Corbin mounting bolt. |
 |
|
The Corbin mounting bolt fastened to the frame
(without the rectangular grommet).

Left side Corbin cover.
Note: The front portion of the covers is shapped
in order to be slipped under the lip of the fuel tank.
|
 |
|
Right side Corbin cover.
Note: Keep a 7/16" nut driver with you
when you are out riding, You never know when you have to get inside the
cover.
|
 |
|
Very nice example of the covers.
|
 |
|
Another beautiful set up.
|
 |
|
Will these side covers fit with the chrome
engine hanger covers? You bet!!! See mine :-)
|
 |
| Note:
I'm thinking of putting velcro under the tank on each side because the covers
are not as snug as I would like them to be. Maybe it's because of the I/S
tank??? |
