Introduction:

The following mod has nothing to do with performance. Its only purpose is to enhance "looks" and add to the "gee wiz" factor.

Parts required :

6 stacks (Add-On or Aeromach):

6 Spectre Breather Filters (part # 3998):

These can be found at AutoZone (approximately $9.00 each).

Note: Do not removed the small rubber portion under the breather. These help when attaching the breathers to the stacks.

6 Plastic electrical pipe spacers/connectors:

On the right hand side of this pic, you can see what these spacers look like. These have been found at Home Depot in the electrical section (approximately 25 cents each).

Fuel Tank Spacer:

A spacer must be used to raise the front end of the fuel tank approximately one half inch. Otherwise the stacks/filters will rub on each side of the fuel tank.

Note: In the pic, the installed spacer is outlined in red.

Since BigBF has made some nice polished ones available to us on his V-Stacks page, I have decided to order one instead of making it. I do not regret it. It is very well made. Click to view full size image

To assemble the breathers, spacers and stacks as individual units, a tube of transparent RTV silicone sealant similar to the one shown in the pic was used.

Stick Spacers onto Breathers :

Use RTV silicon to stick a plastic spacer to each breather. Each spacer should fit snugly over the rubber portion.

Note: Try not to leave smears of silicon as shown in the pic. Otherwise the excess hardened silicon will need to cleaned off before being able to properly assemble these onto the stacks.

Stick Breathers onto Stacks :

Spread RTV silicon onto each plastic spacer or inside the stack openings. Slip each spacer into a stack and let it sit for a day or two.

Note: There are seams on each of these filters. Try to turn these seams towards the fuel tank.

Installing the Stacks:

See the complete pictorial of BigBF's Stack Installation procedure.

Note: As explained by BigBF, the tangs (under each stack) on the choke mechanism must be twisted in order to avoid rubbing the bottom portion of the stacks. Easy does it! I have twisted too far and now need to straighten out the whole choke mechanism.
