The vinyl single "ZAMBIA ZAIRE" by the "SUPERIOR GUYS" and composed by "VEVE KANIMBU" was released by the "Zambian Music Parlour" in Lusaka with producer E.G. Khuzwayo and director Kapembwa (Cat.No. ZMPS 153). The language is Lingala, so most likely the musicians are from Congo, then Zaire.

TWIKALE PAKA NAWE download TWIKALE PAKA NAWE streaming .
I have an old carton box with old African singles and I don't even know myself what is inside, so I decided to do myself and hopefully also you a favour by picking one out every week to listen to.
And believe me, I was equally surprised to find this gem in the box.
I would say it's from the '70's and although it's pressed in Zambia it sounds like Swahili to me, so probably it's from Kenya or Tanzania.
It's played by ORCH. SAFARIS - NKOY; the A-side, a nice slow Soul song, "TWIKALE PAKA NAWE" and the B-side, the lively Dancing tune "SINA NDUGU" have this fine organ sounds like you could hear in the music of the Animals & Them in England in the '60's.
I don't know if this music is re-issued on LP or CD, Maybe you do?

From the beautiful TV documentary "INDEPENDANCE CHA CHA" by the Belgians Isabelle Christiaens and Jean-François Bastin comes this remarkable version of Grand Kalle's most famous song "INDEPENDANCE CHA CHA", performed by a Kinshasa brass band, who are playing this song first in an open air Matonge disco and at the end while driving around in the back of an open truck in the hectic traffic of the Congolese capital.
In the film this song has been used as the guideline for the story about Congo getting independent in 1960, at the hand of a lot of interviews with young people, "Anciens Combattants" (Old Soldiers, who were fighting with the Belgian army in W.W.II), historians and former fellow musicians of Grand Master Kabasele.

Some dances not really invented by Congolese musicians, but imported to Congo. "MAMBO HAWAIENNE", played by DR. NICO , "EKEDI" and a remarkable "TWIST WITH THE DOCTOR" (but not with Dr. Nico this time) by RYCO JAZZ, recorded in 1962. |

| I have always liked the TRIO
MADJESI & ORCHESTRE SOSOLISO for their sense of humour and their
different approach to music, so that's why you find this clip here of CARTE
BLANCHE Pt. 2 and MOSEKA. The whistling
part in the first one always reminds me of French movies and the second
part is a song about the "Leopards" Football Team.
From LP: TRIO MADJESI , AFRICAN 360 055 I did not find these tracks on CD, but other tracks by TRIO MADJESI are on this CD: SONODISC CD 36537 Various Zaïrean Artists: Compilation Orchestres Congolo-Zaïroise (1967 / 1968 / 1970 / 1974) |
| AFRIKA MOKILI MOBIMBA download | AFRIKA MOKILI MOBIMBA streaming |
| As a tribute to DECHAUD,
the elder brother of Dr. Nico, here is "Afrika Mokili Mobimba" which in
fact should be named "AFRICAN JAZZ MOKILI MOBIMBA"
as I'm reading in the excellent magazine "THE BEAT".
Dechaud passed away as a poor man in September 1999, despite being the
composer of this song, that became very popular all over Africa, the copyrights
being snatched away by others, as so often happens in the hard world of
African music.
On this LP "AFRICA DANCES" the performers are given as: KALE-ROGER and ROCHEREAU with the OK JAZZ ORCHESTRA, but that seems very unlikely to me. I think it should be the AFRICAN JAZZ Orchestre, as OK Jazz being the rival orchestre of these singers. From LP: AFRICA DANCES , AUTHENTIC 601 |
