John Morrison's RW4 Church Midwing

plane5.jpg

It's time to varnish the wings.

The wings are on! That's the designer lurking in the shadows, setting the dihedral.

Shows the headrest and and turtledeck transition from 0.8mm ply to stringers, and the lightening holes in the rear spar.

The deck tilts forward for maintenance. Notice the square hole in the deck for the BRS chute to fire through. The BRS will mount on the rear of the firewall, and fire upward.

Sitting in front of the original Ragwing hangars at Tokena Airpark. The covering is done, painting the topcoat and stripes. This is over PolyBrush and a basecoat of Randolph's aircraft paint.

The landing gear is made of 3/4" steel and two 3/4" 6061 tubes connected by bungee cords. Also shows the foot step in the fuselage and access to the engine pull-start.

Access to the instruments and BRS chute for maintainance is easy with the deck up!

The gap between the wings is just like the original 1931 Church racer. The turtledeck is 0.8mm plywood steamed to shape.

This beautiful plane is located in Greenville, SC. and is equipped with a Rotax 277 with less than 10 hours since rebuild, new Culver 60x28 prop, and new EGT, RPM and compass.
