Pointless originally began at the end of 1995, in a small San Diego studio with high hopes and the drive to succeed. This drive however, was strongest with bassist/songwriter, Mark Walsh. He had a powerful style in writing music, and had intricate bass lines that needed to be filled. Through the hard times, Walsh stuck with the band and saw that the only way to succeed would be to find new musicians with the same drive as he. The first of these new driven musicians, was drummer/songwriter, John Lovik. John was a fan at first, and then joined the band back in April of 1999; and brought amazing classic rock drumming skills mixing with the forbidden beat of punk. Pointless was starting to achieve the sound and feeling Walsh and Lovik had originally hoped for.
The band went in for their first recording session completing a 10 song (LP), Circle of Friends. Shortly following the recording some drastic changes were made in the band, first of which happened in December of 1999 when new singer/guitarist, Andrew Taillole joined. Andrew’s music style mixed well with the band’s sound, by adding complex harmonies on the guitar and a diverse sound on vocals. Shortly following the new addition, Pointless added a returned member, and now finishing up their final touches with, guitarist/songwriter, Matt Walker, who brought an emotional touch on the guitar with melodic chords and harmonies.
Pointless has been playing venues as widely known as Sunset Blvd.’s own, “Roxy Theatre” and the famous “Whiskey A Go- Go.” They have also had their share of experiences in San Diego’s clubs, and wide variety of venues.
Pointless finished recording a 5 song (EP) in March of 2000. This EP was comprised of music that brought out the sounds of all styles together into one, making it what we call, “Melodic Punk.”
Some updated news of the band.....Ben Pincock, the original singer has returned to the band. The band will be starting on August 16th, 2001.
