Pack 614 Area Scouting Resources

As leaders, educators or parents, we're always looking for interesting thigs to do with our kids. This list of destinations is designed to be a resource for you to find new ideas of things to do with your kids, whether they're Girl, Boy or Cub Scouts, a YMCA group, or a school class.

This list is in constant evolution. Please let us know what places you have visited, who you contacted, and what you did so it can be included for others, or just give us your ideas for something you'd like to see added!

Most of these destinations are in the Murrieta/Temecula Valley, but some can be found in San Diego, San Bernadino, Orange and the greater Riverside County areas as well.

Bates Nut Farm
15954 Woods Valley Road
Valley Center
760-749-3333
Bates Nut Farm hosts an annual Autumn Festival, with scarecrow and pumpkin carving contests, hay rides, and country crafts. They have a number of shops on the farm, as well as livestock and a petting zoo. Nice people, and they're happy to work with scouts!

Miramar Marine Corps Air Station
San Diego
619-577-1011 (Public Affairs Office)
These folks were a dream to work with, and very willing to go out of their way to accomodate our Scouts. Our tour started with a (big!) box lunch. One $3 meal could have easily served two people. Next, a visit to the airfield crash and rescue unit included demonstrations of their fire fighting vehicles and equipment. Finally, a tour of one of the fighter squadrons, with a close up walk around of an F/A-18 Hornet conducted by one of the pilots. Reserve squadrons train the first weekend of the month, so if you want to tour a squadron you should request your tour for that Saturday. Our event lasted from 11:30 to 2 and was extremely well received by the boys!

March Field Air Museum
The March Field Museum Foundation has group tours available. The cost for Scouts is $4 for adults and $1 for boys. The tour includes a short film about the history of March Field followed by a guided tour of the exhibits by a Foundation volunteer.
