Taiwan's dogs still need our help! View PETA's Investigation!
Please continue to write weekly -- thank Premier Siew for
passing the Taiwanese Animal Protection Law and for responding to
the many letters we have sent, but also let him know that we
continue to hear that little, to no change has really occurred.

Dear Premier Siew:
With the passing of the "Animal Protection Law" the
shelters and the way stray animals are treated should greatly
improve. Nonetheless, the existing problem of an overwhelming
number of stray animals still needs to be addressed. What actions
are you taking to correct this problem?
Educating people on spaying and neutering of animals is highly
effective. Campaigns against puppy mills and overbreeding are
also adequate ways to control overpopulation. Without further
measures taken you will still be killing millions of animals
simply because of ignorance.
Also, how do you plan on enforcing the "Animal Protection
Law"? While working with the COA and EPA, will the Republic
of China help form a separate organization to monitor the success
of the bill?
What is being done to seek out the wrongdoers and penalize
them? Are the fines steep enough to make people stop torturing
animals or will they simply get a "slap on the wrist?"
Finally, what is being done to stop the slaughter of 2 million dogs and cats annually for their fur? Will this bill have the same affect for the farms that breed animals for fur? Will the slaughtering house be forced to stop the killings?
I appreciate the steps that your country has taken thus far --
please continue to work for a world that is a safer place for
animals.
Sincerely,
