There are several ways to calculate the pricing of an engraver's work. Among these are:

• A flat rate per page
• A fixed hourly rate, regardless of the number of pages
• A rate based on the amount of engraved output measured in Bytes

I choose to charge for my work according to the number of non-whole-rest frames. The reasoning supporting my decision to do so is:

• The client knows exactly what he will have to pay beforehand (no surprises).
• The client is not at a disadvantage if the score is of complicated character.
• This method adequately expresses the amount of work actually done. This is true on average. I have never seen a job involving only one measure of music.

A frame is a term that describes one measure on one staff of music notation. Accordingly, one measure of a typical piano piece would contain two frames, whereas one measure of a typical string quartet piece would contain four frames.

The following line of piano music contains six frames.

My basic fee for music notation engraving is set at $0.30 (USD) a frame. Hence, the price calculation for an entire project is made simple and straight-forward.

I transpose from any key to any other key. I do not charge anything for transpositions. My normal pricing applies to the engraving of music notation, regardless of whether the material you desire is to be transposed. Simply indicate the key into which you would like to have the music transposed. Also indicate the direction: up or down. If you prefer, you can simply indicate the number of half-steps up or down, and I'll take it from there.

No, I do not normally charge anything extra for lyrics. I am fluent in German and Russian, so this doesn't slow me down much. However, please write for an estimate regarding any other language. If the lyrics are easily legible, I will not charge extra for their inclusion.

If there are fingerings involved in your project, we must make a distinction and come to an agreement as to whether they are to be considered extensive or not. Try me! Many are surprised as to how lenient my system of evaluation is! I will not charge extra if the fingerings are not extensive.

Because of the vast amount of variety in the different requirements of projects, it is too difficult to state whether all formats can be offered for the said price. This mainly concerns the formatting of publications such as musicological studies and avant-garde music.
