The search engine is a "java applet". Basically this means that your computer (the one viewing this page) does all the searching. If your internet connection is slow then this will be slow! However, once the pages have been read through the first time it will be faster the second time around. Be patient.
The "Search for" box is where you type what you are looking for.
If you are looking for a phrase or word just type it in
and press the "search" button. For more complicated searches you may
use the separator "&" to look for passages containing a number
of words or phrases (logical AND). You may also use the separator
"|" to look for several words at once (logical OR). You can use
as many separators as you like but don't mix them.
Examples:
Once the search button is clicked the search will begin. As verses are found in the text they will begin to appear in the results area. When the search is finished the search button will become active again and the status bar (at the bottom) will report the number of found verses. If you click on a verse in the results area you will be taken to that verse.
If this box is ticked then the search will be case sensitive. That is a search for "Bread" will not match lines containing "bread" as it is not capitalised.
If this box is ticked only whole words will match. If this box is not ticked partial words will match. For example, a search for "wine" will match "swine" and "wineskin".
Many thanks to Richard Babbage for the applet. I have modified it slightly for this page and here is the source.
