Lance Armstrong formed the Lance Armstrong Foundation while he was undergoing chemotherapy for testicular cancer. The Foundation’s mission is to help people manage and survive cancer by providing information, services and support.

The Peloton Project is a fundraising program that helps to support the mission of the L.A.F.  The project grew from a shared motivation among cyclists around the nation who wanted to join Lance Armstrong in the fight against cancer.

So...what are we doing about it?
We (that is, Chad and I) have decided to join the Peloton Project and work to raise money for L.A.F.  Why?  Inspiration from Lance's book It's Not About the Bike and because we know so many people who have suffered from cancer, including my father who died in 1996 from diabetes mellitus and prostate cancer.

How are we going to do it?
First, we're going to beg.  Then, for those people who want to watch us suffer, we're going to solicit donations for every mile each of us rides in 2 events - the Cruisin’ in the Country Century Weekend in Claxton on November 11, 2000 and the Pecan City Pedalers “Wheel” Millennium on January 6, 2001.  Chad plans to ride a total of 200 miles in the two events, I plan to ride 60.  We are calling these the 'Going the Distance' rides.

We will post more fund raising events as we think them up and get them planned.  We're working (already) on getting a ride put together for the 2001 ‘Buggy Days’ here in Barnesville, but the proceeds will go to the L.A.F. for 2002. (If you can help us get this set up, please let us know!)

To keep track of the amount of money we've raised, we're going to build a bike instead of using the standard thermometer graphic.
