The Hand Grip FDP

The Hand Grip FDP for the PZ-1p is a body extension made of hard plastic that attaches to the bottom of the camera. It has a fastening screw that attaches to the camera body's tripod socket. A dial at the rear of the Hand Grip turns the fastening screw. It also comes with an adjustable strap that attaches to the lug of the camera and the lug at the bottom of the Hand Grip. If the grip strap is used the camera strap can be attached to a lug on the strap itself. The Hand Grip has its own tripod socket. To prevent wear, the Hand Grip's bottom is protected by a stainless steel metal plate.

As you can see, the Hand Grip blends into the design of the Pz-1p. One can hardly tell that the Hand Grip is just an attachment accessory. The Hand Grip vastly improves the handling of the PZ-1p. It extends the height of the camera about an inch thereby giving the little finger something to curl or wrap around. The strap fastens the camera securely to the hand the same way as the straps found on today's camcorders. It really lessens one's anxiety of dropping the camera, specially when using heavier lenses. The weight is negligible although it increases the camera's size. Too bad it does not hold AA batteries.

The manual mentions an optional Quick Shoe Adapter specially designed to fit the Hand Grip's bottom that will facilitate mounting/dismounting from a tripod. I don't find such device necessary, specially since most tripods have their own quick release shoes.
