Cagayan (or commonly called the Cagayan Valley) is located in the northern part of the island of Luzon. It is my wife's home province (she grew up in Piat). These photos were taken during our vacation there in May 1999.

The mouth of the Callao Cave. Located in Peñablanca, Cagayan, the Callao Cave is a tourist destination. One has to climb the 200-step concrete stairway built on the side of a mountain to reach the mouth of the cave. The mouth -- and the cave itself -- is huge. You can fit several tall buildings inside and you won't fill the cave. A small footpath inside the cave will lead you to its seven chambers. It's a very long walk/climb to see all chambers.

This is a view from the ground looking up. A hole on roof of the cave provides much needed illumination.

This image gives an idea how huge the cave is. There was a trail of people walking along the footpath when I took this photo. But except for that one man who stopped to rest, they were all reduced to a blur by the slow shutter. You can can see two of the seven chambers at the back.

This is the church in Tuao, Cagayan. On the foreground is the local transportation.
