| Therapy Abuse is a particularly
devastating crime. In common across particulars and gender, is the therapist's misuse of
his/her power over a trusting client.
The therapist/client relationship is
inherently one of unequal power. Clients seek help from therapists when they are in need
of assistance. This makes clients vulnerable to the therapist in whom they trust to
help them heal. Knives, guns and physical force are not necessary to exact physical,
sexual, emotional, or psychological compliance.
Therapy Abuse
happens. The harm is devastating to the client, their families,
and to the professions in general. Finding the language to do justice to the impact is difficult, but
necessary.
