An analogy is a teaching tool used to explain something in different way so that it is easier to understand. For example, if I say "The wind blew through the trees like children running from a school on the last day before summer." The thing I'm trying to talk about is the wind in the trees. If you're seeing trees for the first time and you've never experienced wind, you might not know what I was talking about. If I know that you've been to school and you've seen what kids are like on the last day before summer break, I can use this analogy and you will have at least SOME idea of what I'm talking about.

Analogies have been in use for centuries. Jesus used them (His parables) to teach people about how to live their lives, what their responses should be to certain circumstances and what the consequences of their actions would be. He knew that with our limited ability to understand, that He couldn't speak as plainly to us as He might have liked to and so He used old truths that people were familiar with to explain the new truths we need to learn, accept and understand.

As I try to understand His way for my life and as I try to explain what little I know to others who know even less, I think in terms of analogies. Here are some of the things I have written. I hope that you find them useful.
