FILMWAVESThe magazine for low/no-budget filmmakers and audiences. Published quarterly Filmwaves is an indispensable source of information on the established British Independent Film and Video sector which covers festivals, state funding agencies, books, new technology, Independent cinema history, features on film/video makers etc. Although it began as a d.i.y. autonomous publication it is now becoming a glossy creature of the state, It's coverage of the underground is sketchy and its politics compromised, but all the same it's worth the cover price for the listings and occasional good article. What you gonna do?Subscription to FILMWAVES for 4 issues is £10 (UK) £15 (EU) $28 (US). Make cheques payable to Obraz Productions Ltd. and send to Filmwaves, P.O. Box 420, Edgeware HA8 OXA. tel. 0181 906 4794. www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~filmwave/
AMATEUR CINE ENTHUSIAST MAGAZINEThe original cinema underground, A.C.E. has been published in various forms since 1934 and it's a revelation for any filmmaker working in Super 8, Standard 8, 16mm, or even 9.5mm. It's packed with articles, reports, adverts and classified ads on every aspect of amateur cine filmmaking and technology. If you've been told that Super 8 is dead or that you just cant get bulbs for the Pailliard Bolex G916 projector anymore... it's a lie !Tel. 01503 272616 Subscriptions make cheques payable to Ace for £14 (UK) £20.00 (airmail) Send to ACE, Porthallow End, Talland, Looe, Cornwall, PL13 2JB, UK
VERTIGO MAGAZINEHeavily subsidised, definitely old school, Independent film and video magazine whose contributors and editorial board reads like a who's who of state funding selection panels. The contents is mostly theoretical, profiles of makers, reviews and hand wringing about cuts in state funding. If you can get past the in-jokes and the self righteous tone there's sometimes some revealing features. It's even got a bit cheeky lately. Hmmmm.Published quarterly, subscription £10 (UK) £15 (EU) $18 (US and beyond). Make cheques payable to Vertigo Ltd. Send to Vertigo, 7-9 Earlham Street, London, WC2H 9LL, UK. e-mail: vertigo.lusia@lineone.net
