Paying
the Last Respects to Lady Diana
and The Great Korean Leader Kim-Il-Sung
1998,
NDK, Sofia
The
Korean State Leader Kim-Il-Sun died in the summer of 1994.
The Western media announced the hysteria in the streets of the North
Korean capital where girls in uniforms were crying desperately as
if they had lost a very close relative, their life thus losing every
bit of meaning.
In 1997,almost the same time of the year died Diana, the Princess
of Wales.
Reports from all over the world showed the same kind of hysteria,
very much like the North Korean one, but this time pervading the
world of democracy. However, it wasn't announced by media as abnormal
behaviour, but as a real sorrow over the death of a very close person.
It was interesting to watch the signs of sorrow of people who were
absolutely untouched by Diana's life and activities, as well as
the everlasting sincere love demonstrated by our Bulgarian compatriots.
Documentary photographs that I took outside the British Embassy
last September show little obituary posters in the Bulgarian style,
written out with words of love and endless remembrance
The most interesting obituary is about 50/70 cm of size. The full
size photograph of the Princess is in the center in white dress,
at the left corner she is holding a black child in her arms, and
at the right-hand corner - an orthodox icon of Godmother Mary. This
special collage seems something between a call for unity and a BENETTON
proclamation.
No matter how sorrow is expressed, the most important is that this
expression is clearly inspired by the SORROW OF MEDIA.
On the 5th June, 1998 in the underground passage of the National
Palace of Culture I will make two sites of worship for the Great
Leader Kim-Il-Sung and the Princess Diana.
I will personally pay my respects to both of them as an a grateful
recognition of their contribution to the well-being of our nation
as well as to give the appreciation that is unquestionably due to
every single human life
You will have the possibility to pay your last respects to one of
them without being manipulated by the media.
To this purpose I kindly ask you to bring with you your gifts -
flowers, plush toys, pioneer veils and everything that you think
will be suitable.
The worship will take a place
In the Sofia Underground Fest,
5th June, 1998
