Comments: Dear Friends,
This is an addendum to an earlier post before the Webb Pierce Site was avaliable. In my humble opinion, although opinions will vary, Webb Pierce was the most important Country Artist of this Century. While Hank Williams probably opened the door to modern country music it was Webb Pierce that "held it open" by his vast popularity in the early 50's that allowed many other great artists to be played and promoted in those years. It is a shame that he has not been inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. No one deserves it more.

Comments: The Webb Pierce discograghy did not come up.
I am 60 years old. In 1956, when I was a senior in high school in Lynch, Nebraska, I pursuaded my parents to take me 150 miles to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to see him at a show. I saw him later at shows, too.
FYI: The link to the discography is not active since it is not done yet. If anyone has an already existing discography, or a list of Webb's release available, please let me know.

Comments: I grew up listning to Webb Pierce. I wasn't sure that he had died. I miss his music very much. Today's country just does not have the heart like that of Webb Pierce. Thank you for your site on Webb Pierce. I hope someday Country music will be country again till than I will listen to WSM on the way home from work at night. That's the only place that I hear the old country any more. Keep up the good work.

Comments: Webb Pierce was one of the greatest! Great songs, great stage clothes and the ladies loved his good looks. What more does any performer need? People think Country music isn't listened to in NYC, but there is a strong following for the traditional stuff. Always been. None of that crossover stuff for us!

Comments: I have been searching for any of these movies Webb was in and no one can find them for me. If anybody can find me them, I will be more than happy to buy them, or, even a lead as to where I might find them. Also, was very deeply saddened when Webb passed away. I play his music on a daily basis....I do not care for the trash that Nashville is cramming down our throats today as "country music?"....will stick to my CLASSIC COUNTRY.

Comments: You sure are accurate about Webb's heavy drinking, but what a nice guy he was. I met him in a bar called the Wagon Wheels on the West 50s in circa 1957-58. I recognized him and he was reluctant at first to acknowledge his identity but after a few minutes we were talking like a couple of pals, he with V.O. & Coke, me with Scotch & Water. After closing, he invited me for coffee at a place next door, where we talked for a couple of more hours, finally sharing a cab, he exited at the Hudson Hotel on Columbus Circle and I continued on to the Bronx. It was a night I still fondly remember. Sad and ironic, I read his obituary along with George (Lonesome) Gobel, who I met a few months later at the Embers Club on East 42nd St. You should have seen the size of the "rock" on his pinky ring in his picture on the Page.

Comments: Dear Friend, you have a clever and attractive web site. By 1970, Western music had changed drastically from what it had been in the 1950s. It sounded to my ears, the way that watered-down whiskey tastes to my tongue. So I don't have any current favorites. When I hear Western Music from the 1 950s,it makes me think of my high-school days, riding around with my school friends, listening to Webb Pierce and other Western vocalists, on the car radio, and drinking beer, after the ballgames. Thank you for your wonderful website. I hardly ever drink, but I will always feel happy when I hear Western 50s music.

They are a couple I uploaded to AOL several years ago. I would like to get some of the other midi files you have on Ray Price and Hank Thompson.

What is a young college fellow like you doing with a Webb Pierce web site?

Love country music, cajun music, old Vin Bruce songs. Webb was hard to take sometimes, him and Faron. A little lacking on social graces, but they made beautiful music. RIP Webb & Faron!

Comments: Hi, my mother was a big fan of Webb's. I remember his music well. He was a great influence on me and I still hear his style in the likes of those I listen to today. Guy Clark did a hell of a version of In The Jailhouse Now, although I think he altered the lyric's somewhat. Keep your education a priority as you'll need a good payin' job to feed those kids of yours. The bigger they get, the bigger the grocery bill. Take care & God Bless.

Comments: When I listen to Willie Nelson it is a lot like listening to Webb Pierce. Their vocal qualities are very similar. I miss hearing the older country singers on the radio, but I still listen to them. I have taken my old 45's of Webb Pierce and many of my other favorites and have put them on tape. Now when I go for a drive I have something great to listen to. I also love listening to Johnny Horton. His music sounds so fresh even today. I'm from Maine and I have even recorded many of the local country artists on tape. Its amazing how many outstanding country singers that we have had in Maine. I would enjoy hearing from anyone out there who shares any of my interests. Maybe we can swap tapes of our local artists or other recordings. I also like to write songs.

Comments: I am a big fan of the old-time country music. As Ernest Tubb once said "I'm considered to be of the old school of Country Music and that's exactly where I want to stay". I think it's a shame that radio stations have forgotten those who helped make
country music what it is today. I have some Country Song Roundup magazines from the 1950's and one has an interview with Webb Pierce. Webb states such things as his favorite song of his is "Wondering". His favorie female singer is "Goldie Hill" and his
favorite friends in the business are "Red Sovine and Faron Young". It was Webb who helped start the careers of Faron Young and Floyd Cramer. Goldie Hill and the Wilburn Brothers had help from Webb, too. Faron then helped launch the careers of Willie
Nelson, Kris Kristopherson, Roger Miller. I would hate to see what Country Music would be like if Webb Pierce never showed up on the scene. By the end of the 1950's he had racked up some 57 awards, which was more than any other artist before him and
probably after. Other than Eddy Arnold, Webb had more number one hits that any other artist during the 1950's. Now, Webb Pierce and Faron Young are dead and they never lived to see their names elected in the Country Music Hall Of Fame. Little Jimmie Dickens who had a fraction of the hits that Pierce and Young had was elected -- Politics I suppose,
after all he still belongs to the Grand Ole Opry which I assume had something to do with his election. Even Ralph Emery has said on live TV that Webb should have been elected to the Hall Of Fame. I heard the great George Jones on TV the other night talking about how the industry isn't playing his and Tammy's records as well as other artists. Faron Young turned his back to the business as he felt it turned his back to him. Country Music is no longer the family it used to be -- it's all about making the big money. Sad, isn't it? Thanks so much for posting these wonderful websites and keeping the memory of all these great artist alive.

give to hear my Daddy now, [like] back in the late 1950's. And every Saturday we would sing out on the front grass. Lordy, what a wonderful time! Thank you for letting me write this. It brings back such memories.
