Comments: I just discovered Ferlin Husky and I was looking for biographical info. Your page was just the ticket. Thanks. Ferlin Husky was fabulous and didn't get enough credit. His song "Gone" which I just discovered is incredibly wonderful but mainly because he did it so well. His little trill when he signs "...the Moon, the Sun, the Stars in the sky..." it's fantastic and I don't know why I haven't heard this song before. Maybe because it's 40 years old, but it still sounds great! Thanks for your informative web page! Don Stitt aka Cole Cameron (county singer wannabe).

Comments: My father, Gary, was a country singer and songwriter from Nashville in the 60's. He wrote a song that both Ferlin and a gentleman named Bob Luman recorded called "Run for your wife". It was never released by ferlin but was supposed to be by Mr
Luman, but he passed away just before it was due to be released. Do you have any idea of how I might be able to find either of these?

Comments: I've been told that Ferlin is my 3rd cousin on my mom's side. She passed away last year so I can't confirm but if you ever talk to Ferlin ask him if he remembers my sister Joyce. We lived in Desloge. She sang with The Marler, Lester Family band in the early 50's. The Marler family and the Lester family both owned music stores one in Flat River and One in South St. Louis. By the way, I'm 45 and still sing and play here in the St. Louis area.

We drove down on Sundays to catch these all-day affairs. As I recall Ferlin was one of the first to use back up singers (on 'GONE').

Comments: I am 60 years old and remember Ferlin in the early days when he was really popular. I loved Simon Crum and use to (still do sometimes) imitate him. I'll always remember the line "Does he take you on tour with him?" "Sometimes, and sometimes he leaves me home with his wife and kids. Some say his kids look just like me!" followed by Simon's great laugh!! Sure would like to get some of those skits on CD.

Comments: I am sorry, but this web page makes me very angry. I keep reading that Hurricane Hugo closed Ferlin's show in Myrtle Beach, SC in 1989. This simply isn't true. I am one of many singer/musicians who worked onstage with him for almost a year with no pay, and unbeknownst to him, I have the business' paperwork to prove it. He left Myrtle Beach in the dead of night owing many of us in excess of $10,000 each. He came out smelling like a rose and we all almost lost everything we had.
FYI: If this is indeed true, I suggest that you take it up Mr. Husky. Until proven otherwise, I stand by my sources.

Yes, this is a country song. I have heard it sung by Ray Price as well as by Emmylou Harris. It has also been sung by singers such as Ray Charles.

Comments: I have been a fan of Ferlin's since the 50's when I saw him perform "Gone" in Moline, Illinois. "Gone" is a classic that will live forever but Ferlin has done other songs that have already been forgotten and that's a shame. For instance, I have not seen any mention of "Missing Persons", one of my favorites by him. I have seen "Little Tom" mentioned. And how about "A Hillbilly Deck of Cards" by Simon Crum? His "Born to Lose" album was just awesome. I still have that album but, unfortunately, I played it so much, it's become scratchy and difficult to listen to. Anyway, just wanted to let my thoughts be known about one of the great country stars that still has not been voted into the Country Hall of Fame. For shame!

Comments: The last time I saw Ferlin was at my uncle's funeral. I have forgotten the year, maybe early 80's. He was very nice and I shook his hand and thanked him for coming. My uncle was Finis G. Inman ("Ike") from Gallatin, Tennessee. He drove the bus for Ferlin and also played bass in his band. I remember going to my uncle's house and Ferlin stopping by. He also knew of my father, Charlie Inman. He too, was a country musician.
I have to tell the story of my uncle Ike bringing Ferlin's tour bus to Hartsville, Tennessee in May of 1967. My older sister was graduating from high school and Uncle Ike says "come on children" (about 10 of us all together) hopped on Ferlin's bus and off we went to the graduation. As he parked the bus, people were starting to stare at it...thinking they were going to be entertained, I guess...Well, as we all were getting off the bus, someone yelled "Where is he?" and my silly uncle Ike just waved his hand! We thought that that was a special and fun time with my uncle and felt so honored to have ridden in Ferlin's bus!
P.S.- Don't tell Ferlin! HA!

Comments: Hi, here's a little DETECTIVE job for you. I am almost 46 years old, been a very Attentive Music fan all my life and a Lead Guitarist for 30 years (vocals even longer). I was listening by the time I was 2 years old or so, and I seem to Remember a song called "I've Got You Where I want You ('cause you killed my great Grandpa)" and I am pretty Positive that it was by Ferlin Husky as Simon Crum. I was only a baby (practically) at this time so, the song being a Ghost Story, it used to scare me a little. It made such an impression on me that to this DAY I have wanted to get a copy of that song for nostalgia. Since you have your Ferlin page I thought I would turn you on to this and maybe you would see what you could find. If you locate it, I will be very gratefull. You have a great page, and I am looking forward to checking out some of your other sites as well. Thanks man!
