Index of /pub

Since a default directory index does not seem to work here, this file list is automatically generated by a CGI script used as a default index.cgi (see or download the source as dirindex.txt). This script automatically inserts a HEADER.html (like this file) or HEADER (plain text) before the file list and README.html or README after the file list if any of these files exist. It can also parse a file for AddDescription directives, but since the usual location in .htaccess causes a server error, a different file can be used. The only thing missing is the file icons. You can get more information on the webserver from www.apache.org

Links ending with .cgi will execute and links ending with .txt are the script source that you can look at or download. If you load these into your browser and then 'save as' text files, you should be able to view and edit them in your favorite editor (including Notepad). If you download them directly, these Unix text files may look munged in Notepad, but should look fine in Wordpad or a word processor.

When editing a script, make sure you 'save as' regular text (not .doc, etc.). Some programs may put .txt on the end of the filename which you may need to remove for .cgi or .pl CGI scripts.

Some of these scripts may require other Perl modules that are not on this system.  To see if a Perl module is installed here see findpmod.cgi below. I will have more on how to install your own Perl modules later. See www.perl.com for more information.

Since prohosting.com does not allow telnet access to test scripts in the shell, and server errors are rather generic, the best way to compose and test scripts is to install Linux on your PC. It comes with a multiple boot loader so you can still boot to your other OS. It typically comes with the Apache webserver and Netscape so you can compose and test Unix CGI scripts offline to work the bugs out before going live on the internet.
