Private Property Rights vs. Rails-to-Trails

The following is from a group called "The Fox River Rats".  If you too have concerns about the Brown County Government, please email me.

"Communism can be summed up in a single phrase: The abolition of property rights."

--Karl Marx, The Communist Manifesto

"We reject the idea of private property."

--Peter Berle, President --National Audubon Society

Please help us.  Anyone who believes in the integrity of our Constitution should be outraged by what is happening to thousands of land-owners across the U.S.  Rails-to-Trails is a piece of "feel-good" legislation that legitimizes the taking of private property, and rewards the railroads for abandoning rail lines they've used and profited from for one hundred years.  What country is this, anyway?

Throughout the U.S., the railroads "own" only 10% of their rail corridors.  The balance of these corridors is comprised of easements or rights-of-way, that should revert to deed-holders when a rail line is abandoned.  How can the government simply take private property, and then pay another entity (the railroads) for something it does not own?  How can the mass media stand by and not bring this issue before the public?  What country is this anyway?

We are group of people from Green Bay, Wisconsin, who have been fighting for our property for the past two years.  To date, this proposed trail initiatives, have been wearing us down.  During these past two years, we have been faced with trespassing in our backyards, unleashed dogs, cars, motor bikes, and snowmobiles on the proposed trail.  At the same time, we have been denied police protection at the instruction of local government.  The major newspaper in town has vilified our association as a bunch of obstructionists to community progress and the common good.  In making their case, they routinely misstate the facts or omit important legal points which are central to our opposition.  What country is this anyway?

As was stated earlier, we firmly believe in our Constitution, and in our right to own private property.  In fighting for our own backyards, we are representing and helping to protect every property owner living in this country.  We believe that the ownership of private property is central to the concept of democracy.  We also believe that if one constitutional right is taken or altered, all are diminished.

At last the truth is coming out!  The public has been lied to about this trail for two years.  My take is if the political powers told the people this was nearly all private property there would be an uprise. Every single person who owns a piece of property should be outraged that this is happening.  Our elected officials deliberately confuse the public about the facts. Trails are good if they are on PUBLIC land, but if anyone does not believe in private property, then may I suggest they leave this country and go live somewhere else where socialism is welcomed!

F.Y.I.--there were two title searches done on this rail corridor, one by Brown County and another by a railroad, both prove that 80% of the land is private property. Isn't that interesting?   Brown County also has denied us police protection during the last two years.  So we've had to deal with trespassers, loose dogs, cars, and vandalism!  What country is this where tax paying citizens are denied basic rights?

Fact sheet on Rails to Trails

email from Jeff Pagels read this to see how devious the D.N.R. has been through this process.

Our river front land is what they want for the State.   If they had to pay fair market to us who own the property, it would be millions of dollars. Real estate people have appraised it , but by using the ruse of rails to  trails, they figure they can get it for next to nothing-----nice people, huh?
