1937 BUICK SERIES 47

on the road

I hope my insurance company never sees this....

The pictures on this page are of our '37 Buick. It is a 4 door sedan with a '70 250 6 cylinder and a powerglide. Not much of a hot rod. I used the fuzzy picture first because it aint the greatest looking in the daylight. We have had this on the road for 3 full years now and its done very well, we can pile a car full in and cruise at 75mph with it with no problem or ride through town at 15mph, it never complains. But the fun starts at night....

ignite! fire up! oohhh! Fireball!
Click the thumbs!
The first one is the tail pipe igniting, second is the second stage starting up, third, its getting warmer and then here comes the fireball! People see a hot rod and always say, "LIGHT 'EM UP!", well they never expect this!

Yes, it gets better
why's it blue? Hey!
A little more fuel and its gonna get hotter. On the left is a front veiw, hey its blue? On the right its just starting to heat up!

Marshmellows anyone?
hey mister, your cars on fire!
We have a single tailpipe and a pre war car, not what most people expect from a flame thrower, but reaction from the crowd is always a good one. The thumbnail on the left is coming at you with the flame growin. The middle thumb is going by and the right thumb is down the road. The wind was kickin up like it always does up here so it kindof blew the flame down a little but I didn't really want it up too high in the wind so I turned it down some anyway.

high
Another fuzzy picture, shooting fire next to a tractor trailer, gives an idea of the height. Getting a good picture with a digital camera hasn't been easy. I am trying to get a shot done on video. When it happens I will try to put that up too.

This last picture isn't all that good plus the top of the flame(a good 1/4 of it) got cut off in the picture. This picture was taken at Ski Windham Auto Fest, but the digital camera we used doesn't like the night life. Still, it gives a good shot of what the flame looks like when its turned all the way on.
SMOKIN!

Fun huh? See what hillbillies do with too much time on their hands? Well if I get more or better pictures, I might add them. Yes, the car has caught on fire once or twice. When its cookin, everything in the back is pinging and popin. Flamethrowin cars have been around for a long time and everyone that does it tries to do something different. Its all in good fun and almost always a crowd pleaser. You can contact me for info but don't ask how to set it up. Well, you can go here, and I will give you some pointers to a simple setup. Don't try to tell me I'm killin the motor or some fool thing like that either, I don't care, it aint your car so never...wait I got out of hand. Its got alot of miles on it now anyway. If you want, you can go to the Backwoods Auto web page and see more stuff or junk depending on your taste. We try to do as many of the local cruise-ins as we can.
