Recorded as a rehearsal demo late fall of -99, "Frostbitten" was originally intended as a promo for feedback from the local metal scene. The cd was issued in only 50 copies, and came in the format of a single. The recording itself took place in the studio where A Winter Within normally rehease. Using semi professional recording equipment, and helped out by two of the band's aquiantances, three songs were put down in a matter of days. The completion of the cd however took over two months due to some delay during mixing and a tight time schedule. The three songs featured on Frostbitten are: "Beyond The Portals Of Sleep", "Black Orchids" and "The Newborn Son".

With far better soundquality, and a tighter composition A Winter Within released the second album entitled "Lamentia" the 20th. September 2000. Recorded at Sagevik Lydstudio, Stavanger, this release sets a new standard for A Winter Within; even before the recording of Lamentia was done, the band had more or less signed with Wyvern Prod. and a contract was in the working...The cd is limited to no more than 500 handnumbered copies, distributed worldwide by wyvern Prod. and EWP...

Engineered by Mr. Adrian P. Ronaldson, and singelhandedly produced by the band themselves, it took nearly three months to finish the cd. Lamentia was originally recorded early winter 1999, but after an repetitive error on the ADAT-tapes was discovered, the whole production had to be recorded all over once more. since this was the first time the band entered the studio togehter, in the aftermath the ordeal can only be seen upon as a positive experience by every measurement.

Starting off in sheer brutality with the highly contemplative "Dying Embers" the cd floats into the armageddon-like incantations of "The Newborn Son".Whereas the melancholic expressions of "Black Orchids" may be a reminder of life's neverending cruelty; "Beyond The Portals Of Sleep" reveals the inner landscapes of haunting dreams. Finishing off with a craving for immortlity, "Gathering Of Lost Souls" fades out into the bleak nothing...where no words remain, no sounds persist...and where the only guiding light is the Darkness within...
