"Angklung,
from several points of view"
Angklung is a traditional musical instrument made
of bamboo played simply by shaking it and it will produce
sound with a certain note. The principal of the instrument
is almost similar to tube/cylindrical bell.

Since angklung found
in 1938 by Mr. Daeng Sutigna, it
was created for means of education. It was becoming more popular
when such instrument played by many students in the Asian-African
Conference (1955) in Bandung, West Java. At the same time Mr.
Daeng Sutigna trained the guest of the conference how to play
this instrument and the audience enjoys playing it.
Daeng Sutigna features this instrument as 5
M (Murah, Mudah, Menarik, Massal, and Mendidik).

Murah
means cheap, this instrument is easy to make with cheap
material. Mudah can be interpreted as easy or
easy to play. Menarik means attractive/interesting
because of its form, sound, etc. Massal means "mass"
or this instrument involve many people, and mendidik
means this instrument has an educational feature besides
music.

"Angklung
Orchestra ?"
Today, Angklung Padaeng had reached many achievements.
Another big invention that can count as a major achievement is the
angklung orchestral performance.

Nowadays, Angklung Padaeng can be performing with orchestral
approach. Angklung can play songs along with any other standard instruments
such as piano, guitar, drum, percussion, and so on. This approach
lead angklung to its new standard performance. Angklung can play almost
every kind of song, from the classical such as Strauss's Blue Danube
to contemporary composition such as Yanni's Santorini. Angklung can
be used to accompany singer or even choir. At the end, these achievements
give angklung a whole new place as one of traditional instrument who
can 'go global' in the music world. Today, everybody in the world
can enjoy angklung, no matter what their cultural background are,
because angklung had become an universal instrument. |

Unsur apa saja yang ada dalam suatu proses latihan? Secara mudah dijelaskan:
1. Pelatih, 2. Pemain angklung, 3. Peralatan latihan (angklung, alat
musik bantu lainnya), 4. Materi latihan (lagu, program/jadwal latihan,
partitur). Sesungguhnya latihan adalah membuat semua unsur terkait
bekerja secara sinkron dan selama ini pun telah seringkali dilakukan
dengan hasil yang cukup baik, namun hal yang menarik yang dapat diangkat
adalah apakah latihan angklung itu adalah
suatu proses yang menyenangkan?

Angklung and The Young Generation
"Angklung…. What's that?" A very definitive three words which
always pop-up when someone had been asked about angklung. The best
answer they could know probably that angklung is a traditional instrument
for traditional occasion, playing a traditional song, and played by
traditional players and another traditional terms. Another addition,
for my generation (the o-so-called "funky generation" or "generation
Y"), angklung is defined as an 'un-funky' instrument.

| Sound Characteristics of Angklung |

The type of angklung that describe in this article is angklung
in diatonic scale found by Mr. Daeng Sutigna or also called as "angklung
Padaeng". The main part of angklung is the bamboo tube which sound
is produced. To play the instrument you only need to "shake" the angklung
and the instrument will produce "a note". When someone shakes the
instrument, the bamboo tube is being "hit" and produces sound. When
angklung is shaken in continuos frequency then the impression of bamboo
tube being hit is disappearing but it is still exist.

Pemandu dan pelatih yang akrab dengan panggilan Teh Meli ini
adalah satu dari sekian pelatih muda KPA 3 yang menggemari kesenian
milik bangsanya sendiri. Menggeluti angklung sejak tahun 1994
di KPA 3, bakat terpendam dalam musik dan organisasi yang dimilikinya
mulai terlihat sejak awal. |

Selain aktif
sebagai pengurus KPA & OSIS (menjabat Sekretaris Umum Kepengurusan
KPA 3 - XX dan seksi Humas OSIS 1995-96), Meliza sering menjadi
conductor dan pelatih dalam berbagai kesempatan sejak menjadi
pengurus (kelas 2).
