New Chamber Offices Dedicated

The Rev. Ronald Pate of the Second Baptist Church officiated at dedication ceremonies for the new offices of the African American Chamber of Commerce, 634 E. Main St., Stockton. The dedication, open house and mixer at the 4,920-square-foot facility was a great success Information: 938-0389.

Chambers 3rd Annual 2001Awards Gala

Frank Withrow, poet, publisher and motivational speaker, will be the honored guest Dec. 21 at the third annual Gala Awards and Christmas Banquet of the African American Chamber of Commerce. The event, starting at 6 p.m., will be held at the Stockton Memorial Civic Auditorium. Tickets are available at the chamber offices, 634 E. Main St., 938-0389; The Gift Shop, 307 E. Weber St., 463-0446; or Stride Rite Bootery at Sherwood Mall, 957-4509.

The African American Chamber of Commerce of San Joaquin County will recognize eleven business professionals for business achievements and contributions to our community at the 2001 Chamber Gala Award Dinner at the Stockton Civic Auditorium in Stockton on Friday, December 21 at 6:00 p.m.

Business Manager/Operator of the YearBetty Haynes, Program Coordinator, Black Infant Health Qualifier - At least two years as a Business Manager, non-owner of business with evidence of contributions to profession, industry and community.

Business Employee of the Year Charisse McCullough, Parent Advocate, San Joaquin County Mental Health, Children and Youth Services.  Qualifier - At least two years of employment with current employer, non-owner of business with evidence of contributions to company in solving problems as well as participation in events to aid the community.

2001 Year Award for Retail Business Remi Fagbamila, Business Owner of Royal Beauty Supply.  Qualifier - At least two years as an owner of business demonstrating excellence in growth, marketing, and management.

2001 Year Award for Service Business Greg Somerville, Business Owner of Approved Financial & Real Estate and Budget Legal ServicesQualifier - At least two years as an owner of business demonstrating excellence in growth, marketing, and management.

2001 Year Award for Manufacturing Business – Edwin McClenton and Daphyne Brown-McClenton, Business Owner of Transworld Printing Services, Inc., Qualifier - At least two years as an owner of business demonstrating excellence in growth, marketing, and management.

(2) Special Achievement Award (1) Linda Tregle, Business Owner of International Dance Studio. (2) Freddie L. Alverson, Business Owner of Alverson's Custom Upholstery and Design CenterQualifier - High achievements of a ethnic owned, woman or disabled-veteran owned business. 

Community Service Organization of the Year Mary Flenoy-Kelley, President, Black Employees Association.  Qualifier - Community service organization which has demonstrated a commitment to supporting the community.

Business Advocate of the Year Gillian Murphy, Executive Director of the Small Business Development Center.  Qualifier - A company that has contributed significantly to the promotion and expansion of small business in the area.

Media Advocate for Small Business Marilyn Gales, Business Owner of the African American Communications Network.  Recognition of the achievements of small business / community service.  

President's Special Recognition - Roosevelt Felton, Harddrive Computer Services – Recognition of special achievement as noted by the President of the Chamber for   Mr. Felton's leadership as an Executive Board Member, development and maintenance of the Chamber's website, and mentoring of other website developers.
