Grinds
First, what is a 'grind'? Simply, a grind is a trick which is involves the Diabolo 'grinding' against one (or both) of the handsticks. Simple GrindDo a fairly low throw, and catch the Diabolo on your handstick (either one will do, but right-handed people will probably prefer the right handstick). It will almost certainly bounce off first time but be patient. Once it stays on for more than a second, you'll notice it rolling. Just tilt the handstick slighlty till it's pretty much still. Then a light throw is needed to get it back on the string. Overhead Grind
A simple looking trick that takes a surprising amount of practice to get good. Swing the Diabolo to the side, left or right, it doesn't really matter. As you swing, keep the handstick between you and the Diabolo. Once it gets above your head, it will fall, hopefully to where your handstick is. Titl the handstick as required to keep it from falling off. Push upwards and outwards with the handstick trapping the Diabolo between the string and stick to end.
As an alternative, you can point your handstick inwards letting the Diabolo roll off on to the string. To make it even better, simply swing it to the other side and repeat. Grind to a Halt
A wonderful, yet easy way to finish a routine. Throw the Diabolo, then cross the handsticks and catch the Diabolo where they meet. The hardest bit being the actual catch, slighlty lower the handsticks as the Diabolo hits to cushion the impact. The important thing about this trick is that it will work perfectly fine even when the Diabolo isn't spinning. | |
