His death certificate named his parents as "Thomas Atkins, officer in the English Army) and Bertha Luttrell". Cause of death was "senility and a chill". He was baptised as Robert Luttrell Atkins but his death certificate and those of some of his children named him as Robert Hungerford Atkins. He made his "X" mark on the death certificate of his daughter Isabella. Why couldn't the son of an educated woman write?
Robert married Mary Anne Burgess, daughter of Thomas Burgess and Mary Ann, on 16 Dec 1846. (Mary Anne Burgess was born about 1832 in Warrington, Lancashire, UK, christened on 3 Nov 1835 in Bank Street Wesleyan, Warrington, Lancashire and died on 19 Sep 1905 in Geelong, Victoria.)
